St. Damasus

Pope St. Damasus I served as the Bishop of Rome during a significant period of Church history in the 4th century. He was known for his energetic leadership and his steadfast defense of the Nicene Creed, working to preserve the unity of the Church. St. Damasus also commissioned the faithful translation of the Holy Scriptures into Latin, a monumental work that profoundly shaped Western Christianity.
